Ethyleen (Black) Westberry

Mrs. Ethyleen Westberry, age 84, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, after a sudden illness. She was a lifelong resident of Vidalia, Georgia. She retired from Oxford Industries after forty years as a utility operator. At the age of sixty-five, she received her General Education Diploma and was chosen to speak at the Georgia State Capital, where she received the EAGLE award for adult literacy. She was a member of the First Assembly of God where she served in the Women’s Ministries and the Children’s Church Bus Ministries for ten years. Ethyleen absolutely loved spending time taking care of her flowers and cats, but her favorite was talking about her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Westberry; parents, Jim and Alma Black; and siblings, Curtis Black, Maedine Spell, and Geraldine Johnson.

Mrs. Westberry’s loved ones include her three daughters, Sharon E. Lindsay and husband Glenn of Lyons, Karen Wilkes-Pedatella and husband Gino of Moultrie, and Marian Strom of Vidalia; two sisters, Earline Hardiman and Christine Sikes both of Lyons, six grandchildren, Misty C. Osborne and husband Bruce, Anthony Wilkes and wife Meghan, Kayla Purcell and husband Mike, Kelsey Dattage and husband Jacob, Chandler Strom and wife Natalie, and Zack Strom and wife Emily; seventeen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.    

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 until just prior to the service. The family will also receive friends at the home of her niece, Beverly, 703 Adams Street in Vidalia, from Thursday at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

The funeral service will be held at Wilkes Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon, May 13th at 1:00 with Blake Hardiman officiating. The burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
